Once again, I'm posting Ryan Molenkamp's monthly newsletter. Once again, I give Ryan props for knowing what to see in the Seattle Art world and for getting the word out!
Hello everyone,
Well, what a busy last couple of months it's been. So much art, so many happenings. Thanks to everyone who helped out and who came out for The Portrait Challenge at Bumbershoot, it was a great weekend. This week at the studio we'll be finishing up the last 40+ pages, and I'll rescan them all to the flickr page when complete. Also, The Portrait Challenge is coming to the Seattle Art Museum's Think Tank space, for the duration of the Picasso show! Be sure to stop by when you head to SAM.

Molo's October Art Picks:
Rendered Invisible: New works by Curtis Erlinger PUNCH presents Rendered Invisible, recent works by Curtis Erlinger. Curtis has quietly been making some wonderful paintings that are far more complex than they appear at first glance. They reference photography and seem to have a lot to do with childhood and family memories - in an interesting way. I'm very interested to see this new large body of work. October 7 - 30, 2010 Reception 5 - 8pm First Thursday, October 7, 2010
After The Trees Have Grown Gregory Schaffer at Gallery4Culture. New documentary-style photos by Gregory Schaffer "Schaffer demonstrates a remarkable ability to recognize mundane indicators of societal malaise and transform it into art" October 7 - 29, 2010. Reception October 7th, 6-8pm
Fall Ladies Show 20twenty. It's in Ballard. I've never been to the store, but this show features the work of 2 excellent artists I know, Jess Rees and Kendal Tull-Esterbrook. Reception is Saturday, October 9 · 7:00pm - 9:30pm
Jess Rees is also showing (recpetion Sat Oct 9th 6-9pm): Feather Collection. Watercolors by Jess Rees, Velouria Boutique and Gallery
Albert von Keller and Implied Violence at The Frye Art Museum Sure I work here, but both of these shows are well worth the trip. Albert von Keller's paintings of the occult, seances, mystical healing - and the people who were involved with the scientific study of these things in Munich and Europe in the late 19th Century are fascinating. Implied Violence is a local performance art group who do work that has a great deal of self constricting movement, theatrics, endurance challenges, altered states, and all sorts of strangeness. I'm excited to see the Frye host an all day performance by the group on Saturday October 9th, from 11-5pm, in the exterior reflecting pool! It will be quite a show. Member's opening for both shows October 8th, 6-9pm. Shows run October 9th-January 2nd.
Other shows to check out in October:
Anatomy Lessons Ghost Gallery. "A beautifully creepy group show featuring Michelle Smith-Lewis, Corey Urlacher, Anita Arora
and Jessica Edwards."
Repercussions: Tides & Time at SOIL. "a travelling curated exhibition which surveys the ways contemporary artists document place and time" Curated by Alex Emmons. October 6-31. Reception Oct 7; 6-8pm.
